THE BISON ADVANTAGE

Bison Lifestyle

The uniquely American bison have grazed on pastures across the continent for thousands of years. These majestic creatures freely roam while consuming a varied diet of grasses, forbs and other native plants. Bison thrive in most pasture environments and are well-equipped to withstand both harsh winter conditions and the summer heat. Bison are not domesticated, so they receive minimal handling. They live long, productive lives, calving without human intervention.

Bison’s Role in Regenerative Ranching

Bison play a significant role in regenerative agriculture practices by helping increase soil biodiversity and organic matter. Their natural grazing behavior helps form vegetation and landscapes, promoting the growth of nutrient-rich crops without the need for synthetic fertilizers or pesticides. By imitating the bison’s instincts, farmers and ranchers can regenerate their soil and restore important carbon-capturing grasslands. This holistic approach not only leads to healthier soils and grasslands but also serves as a sustainable carbon sink, aiding in the fight against climate change.

Nutritional Value

Bison meat is rich in essential nutrients due to its ratio of protein, fat, minerals, and fatty acids relative to its caloric value. It is an excellent source of protein, iron and vitamin B-12, offering numerous health advantages. Consuming bison meat can support a well-functioning nervous system, aid in detoxification and digestion, and strengthen the immune system. The nutritional quality of bison is further enhanced by their upbringing, as they are guaranteed to be raised without the use of growth hormones and antibiotics.

Bison Restoration

When any individual incorporates bison products into their lifestyle, they are incentivizing ranchers to reintroduce bison to grasslands across North America. About 135 years ago, the bison population dropped to 750 from herds that were once numbered as high as 40 million. Through the support of bison consumers, nearly 400,000 bison have been restored to their natural habitats.
